Blank grey screen shows when opening Illustrator/InDesign and error message

When I open either adobe application, I am greeted with a blank grey screen (instead of a menu). I can still file > open recent which works, however file > create now prompts an error message, as attached! 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all adobe applications, restarted my computer and used the adobe creative cleaner also but nothing seems to be working.
