blending modes

I have an issue with the blending modes. Any blending mode that I use lower the opacity of the layers so you can see through them. Why is that?

Are you using Illustrator? InDesign? Photoshop? Something else?

That may be standard behaviour, depending on the blend mode. Post your program and version and may be also a screen shot of your layer settings.
