Can't Afford Adobe Illustrator [Branched from unrelated topic]

So i would like to start using AI cause i like drawing and i think that this is the next step but i can't afford AI right now plus my skills in these kind of stuff are non existant cause i've been drawing only on paper so i would like to know if there is some kind of program that i can start with to learn the basics before i start using AI. Sorry about my grammatic but english isn't my native language. Thanks in advance.
