Are you trying to download and install the Adobe Download Assistant or the Master Collection?

The error, "This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance" is an error sometimes related to the Adobe Download Assistant.  You can find details under the Known issues section of Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-download-assistant.html#main_Known_issues.

If however you have the Adobe Download Assistant successfully installed then please complete solution 1 in the same document to reset the download experience.  If you continue to experience difficulties then please initiate a direct download by following the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.

I downloaded the master collection, but once it verifies, it states the check sum error. So then I deleted and reinstalled the adobe download assistant to get the newest version and downloaded it again with the same result. Did step 1 but still no dice.

Then please try the steps listed for initiating a direct download.  If you still have a checksum failure then please try an alternate Internet connection.
