Can't install new CS3 in order to avoid activation issues

After many yeras of use my CS3 suddenly asked me to activate. I tried that, but it didn't work. I have understood that I have to download another version, that gives me a new serial number and doesn't have to be activated. So I uninstalled my old one, downloaded the new one and tried to install. But I can't make it work. Either it initiates the install process with a brief dialog box, but then nothing, the dialog box just disappears and nothing happens. Or it says that I can't run two installs at the same time, when I try again.

Now I have been googling for more than a week for different solutions. I have erased caches, downloaded the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and done a whole lot of other tricks that people have recommended out there on the internet. I have even been in contact with Adobe chat support, which just told me to uninstall and download that new non-activating version, which didn't work this time either.

I am really desperate. I have paid quite some money for my CS3 (though it was a few years ago) and would be really happy to continue using it. Has anyone got any suggestions? Just any? Please!

And thanks Jeff! I created a new account and set it as administrator. First try, after restarting the computer and logging in into the new administrator account, the CS3 installer told me, again, "You can only install one Adobe product at the time. Complete the other installation before you install Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard".


Yes! Problem finally solved!

I downloaded this little problem solver from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

When running, it discovered an ongoing Adobe installation which it apparently ended, maybe by correcting a few things in the registry. After that, the installation of the new CS3 ran smoothly and after a week of headaches I can finally use my old CS3 again!

Patrikpapelito to add to John's response are you receiving any specific error messages during the install process?  I would recommend checking the installation logs to determine why the installation is failing.  Details on how to locate the install logs can be found at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | Adobe Creative Suite 3, Adobe Creative Suite 4 .

Sorry for being not so specific. I'm running on Windows 10 Home, version 1709, OS version 16299.64.

This is what I have tried so far:

1. Uninstalling the old version of CS3.
2. Downloading a new non-activation version (Obtain a new serial number | CS3, CS4)

3. Removing the cache.db

4. The Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool

5. Erasing all Adobe related files in the Program and Common files folders

When trying to install the downloaded version after restarting the computer, I see a first glimpse of the install window. Then the install program just seems to die and disappear and nothing more happens. When starting the installer again, I immediately get a dialog box saying: "You can only install one Adobe product at the time. Complete the other installation before you install ADobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard" (translated by myself from Swedish).

This is the log file I got during my last attempt, after starting the installer for the first time after a restart of my computer (sorry for posting this really long novel). What I can see id doesn't contain any of the error messages mentioned in Troubleshoot installation with install logs | Adobe Creative Suite 3, Adobe Creative Suite 4​.

Thanks for the update Patrikpapelito. Unfortunately, there are no errors in the log file you posted.  Creative Suite 3 was not always the best at recording errors, and the logging did improve in later versions of Creative Suite.

Patrikpapelito you mentioned you deleted all Adobe applications and files.  Does this mean you used the Uninstallers or did you just manually delete the files from Windows 10?  If you manually removed the files, then please run any uninstallers that are available and then rerun the CC Cleaner tool as you did in step 4 Patrikpapelito.  The CC Cleaner tool is designed to be run in conjunction with the uninstallers but does not replace them.

Finally, Patrikpapelito if you continue to encounter errors what Adobe software titles, and versions, did you remove from the Windows 10 computer?
