Thank you for your prompt response. I figured out what the problem was. It was the akamai download manager related problem. something isn't working properly with the manager, because when i decided to download the product again using an alternate method, i was able to open the package. i've got the latest os x mountain lion. what is so funny is that i chatted with an adobe tech "specialist" who insisted that i was "required" to download and install the package using a wired internet connection. I really didn't believe the person, which is why i decided to download the product again using an alternate route. adobe needs to better train ther tech support and also should reconsider using akamai. those of you who may read this b/c you also have the same issue i had, try using the alternate download method. it's definitely slower and takes longer to download than akamai, but you should be able to open your package at least.

What package are you trying to open?  Do you receive a specific error message?  Finally which operating system are you using?

Thank you for the update Aggiechunsa.  While trying a wired connection is a good troubleshooting step I agree with you that there are other options, such as the method you employed, to try prior to this.
