Question

Cannot activate legacy Acrobat XI without being kicked to trial version screen

Cannot activate 2013 Acrobat Pro XI after transferring to new laptop. Worked fine before.

The standard answers do not work.

I get it that it is ‘not supported’. However it can still be downloaded from the website and how much ‘support’ is required. Just allow activation and leave me alone.

OK that was great thanks. It appears to work now except another issue has come up. I get a message that I have exceeded the number of computers and need to deactivate one. I no longer have the old laptop so I cannot deactivate it. Besides the hard drive was scrubbed before giving it away. Also am not sure how many computers are allowed so maybe something from years ago? not sure. Any help on this?

    1. Individual licenses came with TWO activations.
    2. Removal of software doesn’t deactivate it.
    3. If you don’t have access to the previous device on which Acrobat was installed, you’re stuck.
    4. Nobody can remotely deactivate a device for you.

Acrobat XI was built to run on 32-bit WinXP & 64-bit Win7 systems.

I assume your new laptop doesn’t meet those specs because they no longer exist.

Therein lies the problem.😉 Modern equipment needs compatible apps.

The ‘old’ Dell XPS was 3 years old. and the new one I think has the same software.

The first message I get is that I have a valid activation number but don’t have the correct version installed. They list about 8 versions to choose but of course mine isn’t one of them.

The next message is Acrobat XI Pro Trial. Your Trial will expire in xx days. But Now!

However I did not install a trial version.

I will try the options listed below in Jeff Wright message and see if that works.

However I did not install a trial version.

A trial version is just a version that is not activated. There is no separate trial version.

Thank you for posting to this public discussion forum, Eds.

I appreciate your long-term use of Acrobat XI. How did you get the software to the new computer? Did you reinstall the software, or was it transferred?

What error message do you receive while trying to activate Acrobat XI in 2026?

I reinstalled it then tried your advice which appears to have worked. Posted above.       OK that was great thanks. It appears to work now except another issue has come up. If you can't deactivate from a computer that was activated, then you can’t recover the activation.
