Cannot choose new install directory

Let me preface this by saying I don't want to run the Cleaner unless absolutely necessary... reinstalling InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and all the extra crap like AIR just to fix the one app is ridiculous.

Anyway, previously Illustrator was installed to an external drive that no longer exists, so now it forces to install to the old directory.

This is still the case if I download the manual installer instead of through Download Manager.

Well for anyone who finds this thread in the future, here's what I did:

NOTE: I read through the documentation of the Cleaner tool from Adobe and I swear it said to uninstall the program before running the Cleaner.

I wouldn't advise uninstalling the program before running the Cleaner because you can only run the tool on Adobe programs that are currently installed. So yeah, major fail there on Adobe's part, genius programming and implementation. I have no idea what they were thinking.

1) Plugged in the old hard drive.

2) Uninstalled Illustrator from Add/Remove Programs (Windows 7) [as advised by Cleaner instructions]

3) Restarted computer [as advised by Cleaner instructions]

4) Ran the installer for Illustrator that I'd downloaded from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html

5) Restarted computer

Everything works fine now; I confirmed by removing E:\ drive and running the Updater, which successfully updated Illustrator.

This is to be expected. The install paths are persistent. The cleaner tool is your only option. Doesn't affect your other apps, though. All the cleaner does is remove the install session info while the programs themselves remian functional. they just don't show up in the Add or Remove Programs panel anymore...

Oh thank goodness for that. All the cleaner-type apps I've used in the past blasted everything, which in this case would mean re-downloading / re-installing many gigs of data which is a pain. I'll run that and report back.

Did you uninstall Illustrator from the external drive before it was removed?  If not, this may be difficult to resolve.
