CC Desktop Issues Mac OS X 10.9.5

Hi, I have just joined CC and downloaded and installed CC Desktop but it is always greyed out in the menu bar (I am running OS X 10.9.5).

Please help as I can go no further (e.g. can't download PS, LR etc.)
