I am using an iMac with M1 chip, and attempting to install Adobe Character Animator 2022 on the computer. However, it will not install, instead failing at 2 or 3% and giving an error code (-198) each time. More info reveals a stacktrace:

It seems as if the installer is attempting to write to or copy an existing file. The application does not exist and has not been installed on the account, but old versions existed previously on the computer (but have been removed as well as /Library/ content for the application. What is the issue here?

Has there been any solution to this problem? Having the exact same issue, exact same error code. Just finished setting up my new 16" macbook pro. Time machine backup from 2016 macbook pro that was running Catalina. Just updated to Ventura and this is the only program I'm having issues downloading and installing from CC.

migration is a problem.

at this point you should probably uninstall and then reinstall, though failure is likely.

1 - is that program certified to run on the M1?

2 - have you tried with the apple rosetta?

Tara, sorry you encountered Error 198 while installing Character Animator 2022 on the iMac.  Is there any other information that we should be aware of?  Is this a new iMac, or are you already able to successfully use other Adobe applications on the computer?

You mentioned the computer is using an M1 processor. Does any of the information in https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/apple-silicon-m1-chip.html apply to you?  Were any applications or files migrated from a computer running an Intel processor?

The iMac has been in use for about three months. I've been able to install lots of other programs just fine, from Premiere Pro to Photoshop to Lightroom. The comptuer was setup off of a backup of an Intel iMac.

Thanks for the additional information, Tara.  Per John's question, has Rosetta 2 been installed on the computer?

There have been multiple reports that the recent updates to the video applications are failing unless Rosetta 2 is installed on the computer.
