Charged $164.95?! Contract

Hello,

Where did it state that by signing up to After Effects you would then be on a contract?

I am feeling really confused as I did not read this or at least it was not clear to me.

I am a University student and paid $29.95 for 1 month access to After Effects for a project. I could have cancelled it within the 7 day free trial program because I only used it for 1 simple project.

Why am I now being charged an additional $164.95?

Could you make that clearer to people, that is really not fair.

I do not have the money to pay for this.

Did you read the terms of service that you agreed to when you joined?

Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms | Adobe

There are 3 types of plans available for single apps.

  • Annual plan, paid monthly (12 month commitment)
  • Annual plan, prepaid (12 month commitment)
  • Monthly plan (no commitment)

The Monthly plan costs more per month but you can cancel anytime without penalty.

On the Annual plans, if you cancel before the year is up, you incur an early cancellation fee of 50% of your remaining months.  So let's say you cancelled your plan after just 2 months, you have 10 months of service remaining.  The penalty fee is 5 months worth of payments.

Thank you but I am having trouble finding a real person to speak to via contact support and the robo reply keeps repeating it does not understand. I am very disappointed with Adobe.

I'm sure there are steps Adobe could take to make it a little easier for people.  I'm not sure what you are asking the robo reply.  I would keep simple and just type "billing issue" or "agent" when asks what you need help with.

In fact I just went there now and was able to get a person in less than a minute by just typing the word "agent" into the chat field.

Truth is that the majority of time when people misunderstand the terms of their contract and then cannot figure out how to speak to a representative about it, it has nothing to do with Adobe's shortcomings.

Anyway don't give up.  Maybe ask one of your peers or elders to sit down with you at your computer and help you contact support.

I was going off three big boxes that appeared and thought the one I clicked was the monthly one that could be cancelled. I was a student and decided to pay extra instead of taking the student deal because I could not be bothered. I did not expect this, no. I used it for 3 days for a project and if I knew I would have cancelled it in the 7 days. I was willing to give them $30 for free, not $165.

This is a user forum where users of the software help each other.  If you have an issue with your agreement or feel you've been wrongly charged you should contact customer support here Adobe Account     Then click on the headphones icon to contact support.

The forums are NOT the place to resolve payment issues.  If you truly believe you've been scammed you contact support.

If you're just wanting to vent your frustration at your own mistake, have at it.  Adobe is a hot mess..and they deserve to hear about it.
