Creative Cloud 5.7.0.1307 not updating Windows 10

Last week I had some issues updating CC. After being in touch with Adobe support I installed an older version of CC that worked. The support rep said it had to to with the new installer not working nice with user profiles that are on a network drive. And that's my situation here. However, downgrading to an older version seemed to do the trick. Fine. Suddenly I get an update prompt from CC. I can't do anything besides clicking "update". So now I'm back at where I started last week.

CC is now updated to  5.7.0.1307. Again it prompts me for an update. When I click "update", I get a message saying "There are problems updating Creative Cloud. Error code 304".

I can't update apps, I can't update CC, I can't install new apps, I can't enable/disable fonts, nothing.

I tried every possible solution I could find (and I found a lot), but nothing seems to work. It all worked fine before 5.7.0.1307...

If you have some suggestions - please let me know...

reset the cc desktop app: make sure it's in the foreground, then press:

    Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
    Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

make sure you restarted your computer during your attempts to resolve the problem.

then if that fails, try to repair
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-install-stuck.html

if that fails go ahead and uninstall using the correct uninstaller from https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-messaging and then reinstall

if that fails, do a clean cc install following each applicable step:

uninstall every cc app including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
then uninstall the cc desktop app, again using the correct uninstaller, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-messaging
clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
check for, and if available, update your os
repair all ms visual c++ versions that can be repaired.
update your ms visual c++, if it can be updated
restart your computer (don't skip this)
reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop?action=install&source=apps&productId=creative-cloud
if you're unable to download the cc desktop app at this stage, use the link at the bottom of the page at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-app-download.html
use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials
