Creative Cloud and Lightroom Install Error P44 on Windows 10

Hello, I'm having an issue where both Creative Cloud and Lightroom will fail to install on Windows 10, giving the error:

Installer was unable to create a critical file/directory. Please try installing again. (Error Code: P44)

Thing's I've tried:

  1. Making sure all adobe programs are uninstalled
  2. Removing all Adobe files from Program Files (both 64 and 32 bit areas), and removing the adobe related files in %appdata%
  3. Using the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, this opens then immediately closes, even in safe mode
  4. Closing all instances of Adobe products running in the background

Any other ideas?

Hey Jeff,

I'm running this from an admin account already, it's a personal laptop with one user, I'm also making sure to grand the installer elevated permissions.

Adam50850514, please try creating the new account as previously suggested.  This will help test if the current User accounts file permissions have become compromised.  As previously mentioned Error P44 because the installer is being denied access to a critical file or directory.  This action is occurring even with elevated permissions under the current User account.

You are also welcome to contact our support team at Contact Customer Care if you do not feel comfortable with creating a new local administrator account, Adam50850514.

Adam50850514, thanks for confirming that you tried the steps offered by Ged and Bani.   Error P44 occurs because the installer is being denied access to a critical file or directory during the installation process.  As a next step please create a new local administrator account and then try installing Lightroom CC again.  The newly created account should not face the file permission and not encounter Error P44 while updating.

Information on how to create a new local administrator account for Windows 10 can be found at  Adobe troubleshooting: Creating an admin account in Windows .  For more information on Error P44 see Adobe apps download and install errors .
