Creative Cloud Apps to External SSD – Can't Update or install

Hi everyone,

I'm running macOS 15.4.1 and recently moved all my Adobe Creative Cloud apps from the internal hard drive to an external SSD (APFS formatted) to free up space on my Mac.

The issue:
Since moving the apps, I can’t update them through Creative Cloud, nor can I launch them directly. I’ve correctly set the install location in the Creative Cloud Desktop app to the external SSD, but the apps are still not recognized or updated.

Trying to install apps directly to the external drive also doesn’t work – Creative Cloud refuses to install them there.

Has anyone found a solution or reliable workaround for running and updating Adobe apps from an external SSD?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That explains it, Markus. Adobe applications are not designed to be moved manually from one drive to another. Please manually delete any files or applications you moved to the new drive. You can then download and run the CC Cleaner Tool to remove any remaining components of Adobe applications from https://adobe.ly/42FJ7Br.

Once you have deleted the files you moved and run the CC Cleaner Tool, you should be ready to reinstall the necessary Adobe applications. Please see https://adobe.ly/42HqOfe for information on how to install your Adobe applications and https://adobe.ly/4iNqvEn for information on setting the custom install location to the external hard drive. ^JW

how did you "move" your adobe apps?

and are those apps in the root of the ssd or in a directory?

I moved the apps via drag and drop from the internal drive to the external SSD.

They're located in a folder named "Applications" on the root level of the SSD
