Creative Cloud desktop app will not instal and Error 1001

I recently received an error during an auto update of CC2018 products from the creative cloud desktop app.  The CC desktop app failed to make the update so I un-installed the CC desktop app and downloaded the latest version of the app and tried to re-install it.  Everything appeared to instal OK but no icon appears on top right menu bar.  I am running MAC OS 10.11.6  I then followed the instructions to download and run Creative Cloud cleanup tool.  After running cleanup tool all my CC2018 programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign etc) have disappeared.  I rebooted machine and ran CC desktop App installer which appeared to install OK - no error messages BUT no icon appears and the app does not appear in Applications directory.  I then tried to install Illustrator and Photoshop apps alone but they just crash on installation.  I have been through every procedure 10 times step by step and even reviewed log files for CC Desktop App and they dont have any download or installation errors evident.

I need assistance from expert that can understand the install process and what is happening to fix problem.  It is very odd why I cannot do fresh install and the fact everything was running fine 2 days ago.

Correct answer Zenoline

The answer after two weeks searching is on this link : "Failed to install" error received when installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app

Adobe give us an link to download CC for Mac Os 10.11.6 on this page.

Follow the part

Solution 1: (For error 1001 on Mac only) Download Creative Cloud desktop app

and download this app.

It works !

Zenoline's solution above FIXED my issue, that being, for me, being unable to update nor reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop App (Version 4.5.0.331 released on 04/27/2018).

I like many here am running OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan) due to an older iMac. Yet that aside I never had major issues with Adobe CC be it the desktop app or other applications needing updating or downloading. I went so far as to remove all CC apps, folders, use "cleaner" tool, and chat online/share screen with Adobe Tech but all, to no avail. Attempts to install (new in my case) the 4.5.0.331 version did not work, even after the reinstall of OS X.

Regardless the link Zenoline provided, Failed to install" error received when installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app and used "Solution 1: (For error 1001 on Mac only) Download Creative Cloud desktop app" worked perfectly for me (Thank You Zenoline!)

Step 2 in that solution will provide you with a direct download to what is a new version of the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app (ACCCx4_5_0_332.dmg or Version 4.5.0.332).

Please note that I was signed in as a root user. Whether this helped is unclear but for this interested, this link provides steps to log in as such: How to enable the root user on your Mac or change your root password - Apple Support

Lastly it is frustrating that Adobe has not pushed this newest version out to technical support.

Just spent an hour and a half on chat and they didnt seem to know what to do with this.

They sent this link to the current error version: Download Creative Cloud desktop app

and that was it.

Is there something specific we need to ask for?

Hi Tim,

I got through to support team in India as we have enterprise agreement with Adobe.  Our IT dept contacted local Adobe office and they called me back via support team.  As for the error, there is still no error free release for the Creative Cloud desktop app so best to just uninstall for now or prevent launching app.  Its only a management program after all.  If you are having issues with the apps it manages like Acrobat, Indesign, Illustrator etc. then advise your support person to provide direct link to software for re-install (you may need to use Adobe Cleaner Tool to clean out remnants of app that is not working).  Otherwise, just use your software products as normal for now until new release comes out for CC Desktop App (probably couple of weeks off yet while its tested and rolled out) as this wont affect your use of the other apps.

Cheers.....Garry

Thank you Garry,

I was on support for 1.5 hrs today and they couldnt provide the newest lightroom. When i did the cleaner tool before the newest version I could get was the oct 2017 release. I cant use the online lightroom features without the latest update and that doesnt seem to be possible without the latest CC Desktop so Im out of luck till then.

I appreciate the updates! And Im glad you've got things working!

perform each applicable step:

uninstall everything cc including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

restart your computer (don't skip this)

reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.

if you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 4 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)

use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials

Thank you for the prompt reply.  In most cases, what you proposed is correct and I went through every step you described to no avail.  Thats when I escalated to Adobe support.  We were on the line with them for 5 hours yesterday, clearing my MAC out of old versions trying the latest software but it appears there is some kind of clash between CC desktop App V 4.5 and my MAC running OS X 10.11.6.  The older version works ie 4.4 but the engineers from Adobe will review again today to find root cause of the clash it its difficult to pin down error.  Error code 1001 points to a disk permissions problem but still unable to fix.  Workaround was to reinstall Creative Design Suite with the CC desktop app so we can at least function with the programs we need.

Stay tuned....probably for a bug fix revision to 4.5

I am incredibly frustrated. I am having the exact issue as garryf69633411 and Adobe is dragging their feet. I am also on Mac iOS X10.11.6. About 2 weeks ago, I realized that the CC Desktop App icon in my Mac menu bar was grayed out. For the past 2 weeks I have repeatedly attempted the litany of manipulations shown in the Adobe response (kglad) above, spent hours searching Adobe help sites and trying the same "solutions", dug through forums, etc. Finally yesterday I gave up 6 hours of my life with 2 different Adobe chat professionals online trying to get CC apps to install.

ADOBE, YOU BROKE THIS, NOW FIX IT. I am paying you for software that you will not allow me to use, and I'm also losing MONEY because I can't get my freelance work done for my clients.
