Creative Cloud Desktop doesn't respect chosen language for installs when automatically update apps

Well, today I've made an automatic update in some of the Creative Cloud apps and I was left speechless because Creative Cloud Desktop now seems to ignore the chosen language for installs set in preferences. After speaking with someone from tech support I was said that the updater uses my IP to choose the language (!!), and that the only solution was to uninstall and reinstall the apps... For shure? C'mon Adobe. And in the next update how it will be? One more cycle of uninstall-reinstall? Time is money, they say...

This was just to say that this is not a good way to treat customers by imposing their interface language based on their location, and that is very unsatisfactory.

Best to all,

Carlos

Sorry if I wasn't clear, Carlos, most of the CC 2020 apps no longer require a reinstallation to change the language.

If you are locked into using Portuguese, then I would recommend you follow my last recommendation and update your recent support case by using the process listed in https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/customer-support-portal.html.  If you are unable to reopen your previous case, then you may need to start a new interaction at https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html.

I would recommend referencing this public forum discussion in your support case. If you can also update this discussion with your case number, I would be very interested in reviewing the interaction.

Jeff, now I see that everything is alright - just had to change UI language in each app preferences. This is big (and good) news to me because I didn't knew. Silly me. But the Adobe tech support person who I spoke to never said that, also. Well, I've made a fuss of nothing... Feeling a bit of an idiot now.

Thank you very much for your expertise.

All the best,

Carlos

Carlos, what operating system are you using the Creative Cloud applications on?  What language setting is being used by the operating system?  Does it match the language that the updates are being applied in, or is it a different language than the OS and the preference setting?

For your reference, the procedure to set the language preferences can be found at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/change-install-language.html.

Hi Jeff, thanks for your interest..

I'm using Creative Cloud in Windows 10 in portuguese (pt-PT) language as I live in Portugal. The updates were applied in brasilian portuguese (pt-BR) over "English (North America)" instaled apps. The updates came in the corresponding natural replacement for my native language by Adobe's standards (small coutry, small market et al). But I had previously set the install language to North American English... As I´m a long time and seasoned user of CS in jobs and as an individual I was astonished. This is a first to me and never occurred before...

You know, I've started playing and making money with Adobe toys 28 years ago (Photoshop 2.0.1) so I'm used to english interface like my skin and I don't want to go brasilian way - nothing against Brasil. Old habits die hard.

Best,

Carlos

Thanks for the additional information, Carlos. The behavior described is not expected as the preference should be used to detect the language.  By default, the Creative Cloud Desktop app will use the language setting for the current user account when installing.  From your description, it sounds like the language of the User account is being utilized, and the preference is ignored.

To work around the current difficulties, I would recommend the following:

  1. Turn off automatic updates by following the steps listed in https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html.
  2. Create a new local administrator account that is utilizing English as the language setting.
  3. Apply any future updates under the User account that has the preferred language selected

I would also recommend that you see what happens when using the newly created local administrator account. Is the preference honored, and the applications switched to English, or will the language continue to be in Portuguese?  If you find the language is still in Portuguese then please also complete the following steps:

  1. Uninstall all Adobe CC applications - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
  2. Download and run the CC Desktop app uninstall utility from https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html
  3. Reinstall the CC Desktop app and any applications, under the newly created English local administrator account - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/download-install-app.html

I am hoping the last three steps won't be necessary, Carlos, but I am not quite sure why the language preference is not being honored.  While Adobe.com, and our help articles, do try to determine the language settings, based on IP address, the Creative Cloud desktop app does not.  As previously discussed, it utilizes the language setting of the User account it was installed in by default.

Please update this public forum discussion, with the results, and any questions you may have.  You can also use the process listed in https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/customer-support-portal.html to update your recent support case, as the suggestions given are just a possible workaround.  I would recommend continuing to work directly with our support team to investigate why the Creative Cloud Desktop language setting is not utilized.
