Creative Cloud Desktop update hangs in macOS Catalina

I am running the Creative Cloud photography package (Photoshop, Lightroom) on macOS, and am at my wit's end trying to get the CC desktop application to update properly each time a new version of the software is released.  I have been running CC in macOS Mojave, and had the same problems repeatedly, and have gone through many chat sessions with the Adobe tech support team (non-English speakers, working from a script, rather than really interacting with me).  Those chat sessions always went through the same drill:

  • Turn off antivirus software (done.  I have Kaspersky Internet Security)
  • Make sure the SOCKS proxy is unchecked (done)
  • Completely remove all adobe applications.  (done.  This is a tedious process which involves killing a bunch of processes and deleting a lot of library files, as well as anything in the Applications folder that has "Adobe" in it.
  • Download and run an installer, which puts CC and my Adobe apps back onto my computer
  • Maddeningly, after doing that installation, CC desktop and apps require themselves to be updated immediately, which takes forever, but completes, eventually.
  • One of the Adobe agents suggested that I should upgrade from Mojave to Catalina (done) but the problem persists.
  • Even when I do the uninstall/reinstall and can get the update to work once, with each new update, the adobe CC updater hangs again (at various percentages -- sometimes 19%, currently at 62% where it's held without budging for five hours as of this writing.

I am seriously frustrated at having to completely remove and reinstall all my Adobe CC applications every time there's an update.  I can see on these community pages that there are a LOT of people who have problems similar to mine, and the responses tend not to be helpful (because they misunderstood the complaint, or offered the complete uninstall/reinstall solution, which only works once).

Isn't there ANYONE out there who has found a permanent solution to this problem?

It looks like I stumbled at last onto the solution to the failure of my CC updates on macOS Catalina.

The problem was my Kaspersky Internet Security application.  To do the downloads, I had been "Turning Off" the internet security protection, but what I should have been doing is actually quitting the Kaspersky application altogether.  As soon as I did that, the updates loaded in minutes.

I then realized that the problem was likely a bad installation of the Kaspersky program.  I interacted with Kaspersky tech support, and downloaded an uninstaller for my existing anti-virus software, and a package for a new installation of the latest version.  When I did that, the Creative Cloud software updates continued to install quickly and efficiently even with the anti-virus software active and running.  I regret having spent days and days trying to solve this problem when an easy solution was really close at hand.  It would have been SO helpful if Adobe Tech Support had known to ask me to actually "quit" the anti-virus program rather than to just "disable" it.  In any event.... to my relief, PROBLEM SOLVED.

Thanks for sharing this solution. I never heard of a security app which keeps blocking stuff when you disable it. Probably Adobe haven't either.
