Creative Cloud keeps forgetting about my Lightroom installation

Every few weeks, the Creative Cloud Software on my computer forgets that there is a Lightroom 5 installation on my computer, making it impossible for me to update. The software works just fine for Photoshop, though.

I installed Lightroom through the software and right after the installation, it showed up ok. Last time, I contacted Adobe directly via chat and they told me to uninstall manually and re-install through the software. That worked and I agree that this is a suitable solution for a one time thing, but I am not going to un-install/re-install Lightroom everytime that there is an update.

Same thing applies to the software itself: every other update just crashes and requires me to re-install the Creative Cloud software.

Any idea to what I could be doing wrong? Any hope that this is fixed soon? The whole subscription thing is pointless to me, otherwise.

    Hi DvdW,

thanks for your kind words and your help. In the meantime, I talked to Adobe: Like last time, they just prompt me to re-install everything and don't see why I would have a problem with it. Worked out, of course, but I don't see why the solution should be permanent. They promised to make a note of the issue and to look into it, but they did that last time, too Didn't have the chance to pass on the log files, though.

I guess I'm back to manual updates, then.

Never give in and just file a bug in the tracker for the issue if you like. The issue it's some what hard to get it noticed maybe.. If other people find it they van vote for it and give it additional priority.

if you select Adobe Lightroom (maybe best option) you end up in the Feedback Site on Photoshop.com

you can select: "report a problem". In the meanwhile have fun with your software an create nice stuff!

d-r-s, I just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one having this problem. This is the third time it has happened to me, and I am only now starting to catch on that it seems to happen when a new Lightroom update comes out. I tried the things that DVDW__ suggested. (Thanks for the suggestions!) I particularly thought the things about a corrupt opm.db file sounded promising, but none of that resolved it for me. I finally got tired of searching for a solution and just reinstalled the new one 'over' the old one and it's back in my list for now. It still seems quite sloppy for the CC app that installed LR in the first place can't 'remember' that it did. How hard is that, really? Best of luck.

    Hi DRS / VaRob,

If it keeps giving issues please share this with the Adobe support team in a support case. The 'logic' of the Cloud Desktop on updates / installed apps is known by the engineering team, so if you can share a clear scenario with support they can ask engineering to investigate the matter. You need to share the logs (*.log please zip them together) of the Adobe Desktop App, the Updater etc. On a windows machine they can be found in the folder: %tmp% on mac: ~/Library/Logs (They contain all alterations made and triggered)

    Best of luck!

    Hi DRS,

I'm not sure why this issue is happening on your system: "showing the status of Lightroom incorrectly on CCD (creative cloud desktop)"

You can maybe use this KB to avoid the re-installation and get the correct status in CCD: Apps panel doesn't show installed Creative Cloud apps

As you can work with the software I suggest to keep it this way, If it's bothering you I would try to rule out if this is user profile related the workflow can be found in this KB: Troubleshoot unexpected behavior | User account-specific | Adobe software | Windows 7, Vista

Hope this will solve the issue.

    Hi drs,

So what do you mean by: my computer forgets that there is a Lightroom 5 installation on my computer"? There could be 2 issues: your link on the desktop / dock is gone after a while or your Lightroom 5 does not show correct status in the Creative Cloud Desktop application. I assume you talk about option 2? The status of the installation is just maintained in a database file on your system. So see for example KB: CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed

So if anything shows incorrect there might be damage of your OPM.db file or a read / write permission issue to update this or other files.

If you have crashes in general please try to narrow down the root cause by using: Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Windows | Adobe software or Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Mac OS 10.x | Adobe software

Sorry that I wasn't too clear on that detail: Next to "Lightroom", where the "Update" button should be, I have a "Install" button -- even though Lightroom is installed on my hard drive and can be launched without problems. Installation was done via the Creative Cloud Software.

This is not the first time that this happens: I've been through steps 1-4 from the link that you posted the last times and step 4 solves the issue temporarily. However, it is not acceptable for me to re-install the Creative Cloud Software, Phototshop and Lightroom every time that there is an update. Takes way too much time and effort to be done in a productive environment.

This is why I stopped after step 3 this time; I was hoping that there was a more permanent solution for the problem.

This is Windows 7, 64bit by the way.
