Creative Cloud on new iMac 2019

Hi,

I am purchasing some new iMacs and I've been told by a sales rep that Adobe Creative Cloud needs 16GB of RAM to function. The Macs I am interested in are the baseline ones and are advertised with 8GB RAM.

I know that Adobe specify RAM requirements, but I wanted to find out how others using the software were getting on.

The popular applications in use will be Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Will they run ok if the RAM is not upgraded? I don't want to buy RAM if it's not needed, but also don't want to risk affecting functionality for our staff.

Also, is it easy enough to install RAM myself?

Thanks

I have an iMac with 8GB of RAM, and on Mojave running CC 2019 it is barely useable, though there are workarounds and workflows. I highly recommend 16GB+ RAM. On the new iMacs there isn't a way to install more memory without voiding the warranty. It is best to purchase the amount of memory you need to begin with.

Edit:  I want to add that I believe that the new MacMini is a better overall value and purchase than the current model iMacs are. You can get reasonably priced monitors anywhere, and you get more hardware for your money.

16 is the unofficial minimum. If you expect any kind of reasonable response with Photoshop, Illustrator or Video editing you need at least 16. Don't skimp out now - iMacs are notorious for not being upgradeable without a trip to the Apple store.

Have you looked at a maxed out 2019 Mac Mini with a separate monitor? Much more cost effective and modular.

Hi

You could get by with 8GB of RAM but that would entirely depend on the workload, 16GB would be a far better option

You can find instructions here for installing RAM and I believe it's way cheaper to do it that way then upgrading through Apple

Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

It's only about $40 for a 8GB module
