Creative Cloud Updating Error Exit Code 145

I have installed Creative Cloud (Windows 10) for half a year and never got a problem in updating Apps.

Today was the first time I had an update error, and this did drive me crazy.

I have 4 Apps installed, Photoshop CC (2017), Illustrator CC (2017), Acrobat DC and Camera Raw CC.

No problem in updating Acrobat DC and Camera Raw CC, but an error message popped up when updating Photoshop and Illustrator.

The error messages were as follows (same in Photoshop and Illustrator):

Exit Code: 145

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

- 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 1 warnings(s)

FATAL: Error (Code = 145) executing in command 'MoveDirectoryCommand' for package: 'AdobeIllustrator21-Core', version:21.1.0.327

FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobeIllustrator21-Core Version: 21.1.0.327). Error code: '145'

WARN: Target directory already exists: 'D:\Creative Cloud\Adobe Illustrator CC 2017\Support Files\Contents\Windows'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then that's what happened:

(1) I checked the Adobe website trying to solve the problem and found that I could probably delete the already existed folder to make the update going right.

==> It turned out that the folder cannot be opened, deleted or edited, since it needed Administrator permission (and I am the Administrator!!)

(2) Googled how to obtain Administrator permission and found that I could alter the "Ownership" of the file/folder to get the power to delete/edit them.

==> Turned out that Adobe hid the ownerships so that I cannot alter them.

(3) Googled and found that I could use Creative Cloud to uninstall the Apps.

==> Turned out that after updating failure, the function of uninstall was disabled in Creative Cloud.

(4) Googled and found that I could use Windows to uninstall the whole Creative Cloud and use the Clean Tool Adobe provided to clean the whole things up and reinstall.  ==> A dialog popped up and said you can "Repair" the program to solve any problem you faced.

(5) Tried to "Repair" the program

==> Turned out that the problem still cannot be solved. And there were more error messages right now.

Exit Code: 145

(6) Tried to "Uninstall" Creative Cloud anyway, ignoring the "Repair" function Adobe suggested.

==> Turns out that you cannot uninstall Creative Cloud via Windows, since some Apps on desktop still needed this program to run.

(7) Gave up and posted here

Thank you very much, Kglad!

The first step was not working, because after update failure the gear icon beside the Update button no longer existed, so you cannot uninstall those Apps directly from the Creative Cloud Desktop.

However, you can begin from step 2 and solve the problem. Now my CC comes back to life. Thank you very much!
