CS 5.5 refuses to initialize

CS 5.5 has worked on the machine a couple of years, now suddendly three months ago the program does not start,  and gives error 6, plus asks to reinstall.

There are two problems , one the program refuses to deinstall  with the normal windows procedure so i cannot reinstall and secondly as I cannot open the program how do I deactivate it which should be done before deinstalling ?

Today  there is a slight change, I now get error 3 when trying to start  !

I am totally stuck , and have been so some months now, any idea would be appreciated.

start at the top and work your way down applying applicable fixes until your problem is resolved.

    if cc (win):  https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-application-failed.html

    if osx 10.12 (sierra), https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html

    if, your error is:

"Installer failed to initialize. File not found." or "Installer failed to initialize. This could be due to missing files."

first, rename OOBE Folder to OOBE.old.

    to find OOBE:

64 bit win OS: Program Files x86\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE

32 bit win OS: Program Files \Common Files\Adobe\OOBE

    mac os: HD>library>application support>adobe>caps

    mac os: USER>library>application support>adobe>OOB

if that fails or isn't the exact error you see, uninstall, clean (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and reinstall.

if you're using a dvd to install:

copy the disc contents to a desktop directory and install from that directory.

    if you're using a mac:

    1. Try to Create a new user account in Mac with Administrator Priviledges.

    2. Login to the New user, Navigate to Mac HD> Application> Utilities> Adobe Installer folder, Locate products like Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Adobe Air and un-install them

    3. Navigate to User Library> Application Support> Adobe and move Adobe to Trash.

    4. Navigate to Mac HD> Library> Application Support> Adobe and move Adobe to Trash.

    5. Start the installation again.

if everything applicable above fails, check your installation logs:

    Hi forum,

I still have the two problems:

    1. CS 5.5 refuses to initialize on one workstation, We have two licences and the other  on another workstation just works fine despite of having had all the same Win 10  64 bit uppdates.

2  Have not been able to figure out  how  to deactivate as it should be done from inside the program, which cannot be opened.

I do not dare to just delete ewerything Adobe from  the workstation as i do not trust that the reinstalling than would reactivate the licence.

The log files are inconclusive, at least for me, and Adobes cleaning tool did nothing . I am over my head as I am  basically the hardware guy responsible for assembling the workstations but not a user of this  CS 5.5 program. Could anybody help with an address or name for support by Adobe we do not seem to have any in Finland. I would not mind to pay a fee but would need to get CS 5.5 working as it is  sporadically needed.

    Any help is  much appreciated

what problem do you see when trying to install cs5.5?

Discovered the  Adobe Chat support and  had  a total of three  different chats for a few hours with the cunning chat crew.

My OS and the program being in finnish was an extra challenge.

Anyhow my CS5.5 is finally up and running again after a few idle months  during which the program refused to be opened and resisted deleting it with add/remove programs.

    I had to :

    1. Run the CSS repair software , which reported success but neither changed nor seemingly fixed anything

    2. Open up access rights for all USERS at: “ C Drive-> Program Data-> Adobe-> SLStore-> Right Click on the Folder-> Properties-> Security-> Click on EDIT-> Give Full Control to all the USERS.

    3. Rename the file OOBE > OOBE.old

    4. Download the latest version of CS5.5 from the Adobe site and install it despite of being unable to uninstall or deactivate the original broken version.

That was it and the program now works. Why it suddenly stopped working is still beyond my comprehension.

Thanks for all contributions this was a tough one.
