CS3 Design Standard update wont work, installer alert screen blank

My CS3 is telling me I need to re-activate, I went to https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activate-deactivate-products.html. Followed steps, and I couldnt uninstall  my previous version by going to /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers (I have a mac). I deleted the files off my computer as suggest by Adobe chat. Went ahead and tried to download the replacement cs3 installer but it didn't seem to do anything (when I click on setup it opens a screen that is just blank).

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Why would the installer alert be blank?

Please help, this is frustrating. Thank you.

This is a little more complicated because  Creative Suite installers are not supported by Mac Sierra.  See below for the workaround.
