CS3 new serial number and special installer.

I am trying to re- install CS3 on an IMac. I followed the instructions, got a new serial number and downloaded the special installer. I had uninstalled the original CS3. When running the new installer Setup it failed before showing any options. It showed a small window saying that an error was encountered, and it could not continue. There was no error number.

The previous install of the original DVD had been completed without any errors.

I restarted my Mac and the install has now completed OK without the error. It didn't ask for the new serial number that I had been given. Also, the registration window still fails to connect so I assume that it doesn't matter since activation is not required on this special version. But what's the purpose of having the new serial number? I guess that I can continue to use the software as if registered and activated. In that case I am happy. Thanks for all the replies.

Legacy Creative Suite installers are not supported by Sierra +.  You need a  terminal workaround described below.

And don't even think of installing Catalina until you're fully committed to newer 64-bit software.

Unfortunately my OS is prior to Sierra. It is 10.11.6.

    What operating system?

10.11.6 El Capitan. That is the latest OS compatible with my early 2008 IMac.
