CS3 stopped working, now won't install

I've been using CS3 Design Premium on Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, for years. Yesterday, I tried to open Photoshop and got an error message, I think it said that the application was damaged and would have to be reinstalled. First I tried repairing the installation. That didn't help. So I uninstalled and tried to reinstall.

Acrobat 8 Pro will install, but nothing else will. I have tried the installation many, many times. I have the DVD, the serial number, everything I need. I have also tried downloading new install files from the Adobe website, but those also failed.

I have looked on line for solutions and found nothing. I also have not found clear troubleshooting steps. Please help.

PDApp.log has almost no information. The document you linked to seems to refer to troubleshooting for CS5 and up. I do have Dreamweaver CS5.5, so I have some info in PDApp.log.

uninstall everything cs3 using the adobe uninstallers.

clean per Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

    restart your computer

copy your installation files from your cd to a desktop directory

reinstall using the desktop files with compatibility mode, win xp, sp2

Hi, thanks. I just tried that and it still did not work. I got to the prompt where Acrobat needs you to point to the "AdobePDF.dll" file, since it's 32 bit and you need to locate the 64 bit dll. I followed the advice on "The file AdobePDF.dll is needed" when installing CS3 on Windows 7 64-Bit | Mick's IT Blogs. That seems like it's okay, since Acrobat is the only thing that actually installs, but immediately after that, the entire installation fails, with each other item saying "Component Install Failed"

I have sometimes seen this error in the Event Log:

Product: Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX -- Error 1904.Module C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlDbg9c.ocx failed to register.  HRESULT -2147220473.  Contact your support personnel.

But even if I unselect Flash from the CS install, the CS install fails.
