CS5.5 activation limit reached – need reset (registered serial)

Hello,
I have a legitimate and registered copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 (perpetual license).
I can’t activate it because I get the message “activation limit reached”.
My old computer is no longer available.
Could you please help reset the activation count for my serial number?
Serial: [1409-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-1013]
Thank you!

Thanks for posting, Thomas. Please see https://adobe.ly/3PqAZjP for information on how to manage any remaining activations for Creative Suite 5.5. If you don't have access to a computer on which the software was previously activated, to complete the deactivation process, then you will need to find a new solution for your creative needs in 2026. ^JW

I would like to raise an issue regarding Adobe CS5.5 licensing. As you may know, CS5.5 encrypted license data when generating the .tsf key file, binding it to specific hardware parameters such as:

    • the motherboard serial number,

    • the system disk serial number,

    • and the computer name.

This approach effectively ties the license to a single machine configuration. However, computers are not permanent devices. Hardware eventually fails, becomes obsolete, or needs to be replaced.

Because of this, users who have legitimately purchased the software may lose access to it simply due to upgrading or replacing their computer. I believe this is a significant limitation that was not sufficiently addressed at the time.

Adobe should have anticipated the natural lifecycle of hardware and provided a more flexible solution that allows users to transfer or reactivate their licenses when purchasing a new computer.

I would appreciate any assistance or possible solution you can offer in this situation.

That’s why Adobe gave you TWO activations with your license.

Evidently, you’ve used up both of them.

    Thank you for your clarification.

I understand that Adobe provides two activations per license. However, this does not fully solve the issue in practice. Over time, users may replace or repair their computers more than once due to hardware failure, upgrades, or normal wear and tear.

Because CS5.5 ties activation to specific hardware (such as the motherboard and system disk), even a single major hardware change can consume an activation. After a few years, it is entirely possible to legitimately run out of activations without any misuse of the license.

In this context, the two-activation limit becomes a technical restriction rather than a fair usage boundary.

That is why I am kindly requesting a reset of the activation count. This would allow continued use of software that was legally purchased, without violating any licensing terms.

I believe this is a reasonable request, considering the natural lifecycle of computer hardware.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

there’s no easy alternative to using a computer with a current activation

    Hello,

Thank you for your response. However, I believe there is a simple alternative in this situation.

It should be possible to resolve this issue by resetting the activation limit for my Adobe CS5.5 license. This would allow me to activate the software on my current computer without requiring access to the original machine.

As mentioned earlier, CS5.5 binds activation to specific hardware (motherboard, system disk, and computer name), which makes it very difficult to migrate the license after a hardware change. Since computers are not permanent and replacements are inevitable, resetting the activation count seems like a reasonable and straightforward solution.

I kindly ask you to reset the activation limit for my license so I can continue using the software I have legitimately purchased.

    Thank you for your assistance.

You keep asking for something that’s not possible to do anymore.

Nobody can reset activations for you.

Is there something else we can help you with?

No can do.  Remote deactivation of lost/dead devices is not possible.

Once your activation limit is reached, you have two options:

    1. Manually deactivate from machine(s) on which it was activated, if possible.
    2. Replace legacy Creative Suite with supported products.

    Hello Jeff,

I still have access to my Adobe account and my registered serial number for Creative Suite 5.5, but I no longer have access to the previous computer where the software was activated — the hard drive failed.

Could you please help me reset the activation for that old device, so I can activate my licensed copy on my new computer?

    Thank you for your help.

No, @Tomas B. , I am sorry, but the only way to reclaim an activation for Creative Suite 5.5, in 2026, is to deactivate a previous installation. The computer will also need to be modern and up-to-date enough to contact Adobe servers for the deactivation request to be received successfully.
