CS5.5 DS1 on new Win7 64 Xeon fails to load any VC msi

Installing from a genuine CS5.5 DS DVD I get Error Code 7 just after the installer shows it was attempting to install Microsoft_VC90_CRT_x86.

I have a brand new factory imaged HP Xeon Win7 64 E3 1240 16GB ram SSD C drive and normal spinning E drive.

I updated to latest Windows updates, but have no other software or antivirus etc installed yet!

What I have tried:

Googled the many and varied solutions suggested...

Turned UAC off.

Run as Administrator.

Copied the DVD content to E and run from there.

Specified the install to path as E (to avoid potential SSD issues on C)

Tried to load a trial version off the DVD, and tried the different language options.

I have successfully run these commands from an elevated cmd prompt:

Click Start, type sfc /SCANNOW in the search field, and press Enter.

Click Start, type msiexec /unreg in the search field, and press Enter.

Click Start, type msiexec /regserver in the search field, and press Enter.

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

Installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) from

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/1/1116b75a-9ec3-481a-a3c8-1777b5381140/vcredist_x86.exe

Uninstalled and reinstalled .net4.5

If I double click the msi files directly I get a Windows error to say that:

This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

E:\Adobe CS5_5\payloads\Microsoft_VC90_CRT_x86\microsoft_vc90_CRT_x86.msi

and the _x64 version, and all the VC80 and VC90 msi files.

I installed a couple of these to a different Win7Pro 64 PC successfully

Installed Reader XI ok, but now when I attempt to install CS5.5 again I get the prompt to the Support Advisor - which has been discontinued. Grump.

The results of the Compatibility troubleshooter..

All I can think is that these msi's are not compatible with the Xeon processor? (it reports Architecture: amd64 )?

RESOLVED: I installed trial version of CS6 and then 5.5 installed no problem. (I also used an external USB DVD drive, so not sure which actually fixed it) but I would say the former.

FYI When CS6 was uninstalling I noticed that the VC90_CRT etc files uninstalled as part of this - so it appears that are not even required to run CS5.5 !

    Thanks

Hudsonassoc if you are facing difficulties installing the Visual C++ redistributables then you will want to work with Microsoft as it is a component of your operating system.
