CS5 & ACR updates [Branched from Updating Adobe CS5]

I also have this issue, CS5 will not accept the Camera Raw update. I recently upgraded my Canon 7D camera to a Canon 5D Mark IV. I have read I may have to open my raw files in the Canon Camera DPP software first, save as a TIFF, then transfer to PhotoShop. Not what I really want to do but so far, haven't found a solution. Seems since Adobe went "Subscription Mode" on us, we're left in the dust...  :o/

CS5 is 10-year-old software. It is not being updated to handle new or updated file formats, nor has it been since CS6 came out in 2012. Software companies are not in the habit of updating older versions of software, and Adobe is no exception to this.

This is one option. Another way is to convert you RAW files into DNG. Then you can use these files in you old Photoshop. In my opinion the converting to DNG is more convenient and easier as open every file in Canon's DPP and saving as TIFF.

Here you'll find more informations and the appropriate converter tool:

Thanks so much! I had heard of DNG but did not look into it then but that's what I did tonight and downloaded it through your message.  I recently retired and will have soooo much more time to explore my creative pursuits! Looking forward to creating some fun...
