Question

deactivating CS5 on Laptop running on VISTA

I have Adobe CS5 installed on an old Dell with Vista so I can not connect to the internet to deactivate my copy, thus I am unable to reinstall it.  The other installation is on a laptop with XP so same situation.  Basically the program is worthless and Adobe offers no support.  I paid what amounts to a good bit of savings back then to have to shell out more money if I want to use what I paid for??

I had to double-check the date of this post.  XP & VISTA have been officially dead for a very l-o-n-g time.

It's time for new software. You can't expect unsupported 15-year-old products to mesh with new equipment & operating systems. Technology has changed too much.

Hope that helps.

Even if you figure out how to connect to the Internet with those old computers a new 'security protocol' is required to connect to the Adobe servers... and you are 'probably' not going to find a browser that will work

TLS 1.2/1.3 is now required to connect https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/eol-tls-support.html

-test your browser https://clienttest.ssllabs.com:8443/ssltest/viewMyClient.html

...if I want to use what I paid for

You can continue using Creative Suite 5 from 2010 on your two computers with Windows XP (2001) and Windows Vista (2006) until something breaks down with your computer, OS, or applications.

Can you connect to the internet from either computer when you are not trying to deactivate?

@jane-e

Unless the browser has up-to-date security, I don't think Adobe will allow the connection.

What has Dell said about your computers not being able to connect to the internet? This seems like a computer issue because if you can fix those computers to get them to connect to the internet then you will be able to deactivate your software properly to continue using it on another computer.

@Ben M

I don't know if any currently available browsers support Vista.

The latest browser I could find about that was Chrome v49 which supported TLS 1.2, or there is Supermium which supports TLS 1.3 and is chrome-based.

why can't your old computers connect to the internet?

Adobe does not reset activations. You need to have at least one activation available to activate Creative Suite applications. CS5 was released 15 years ago in 2010. Unfortunately, if you can no longer deactivate the installations, no one here can assist.

You might see if this page can help you:
