Question

Difficulty registering Premier 12 on a PC running Windows

In an attempt to download and edit mini DV tapes from 2009, I have run up against a number of difficulties.  First, I purchased an unopened version of Adobe Premier 12 (same era), and attempted to set it up on either of two computers I've dedicated to the purpose: a MAC running OS Tiger 10.4.11 and a PC running Windows 7.

The MAC refuses to load the program, as it will only work on OS 10.6 and above.  Research has revealed that I can't upgrade that OS to 10.6 as it's necessary to have a Intel processor.

The PC looks promising.  I purchased a Firewire card to allow the direct connection from the camera tape deck, and the computer recognizes the camera.  I also loaded, successfully, the Premier program.  However, the program will only run five times before I register the product key online.  Thus far, I've followed the procedure, received a message to sign on to Adobe.com to register, received a verification of my account via a message on my cell phone, but am stopped at a message that says: "You are signed in.  You can now close this window and return to the previous screen".  I continue to get a window that tells me I must sign on to the internet to complete the registration ... although I AM ALREADY on the internet, and when I click on the "REGISTER" window, the screen just repeats.

Further research hints at some sort of security protocol error.   Can you help?   Will installing Windows 10 or 11 solve the problem?   I am SO CLOSE to getting this 15-year-old dilemma solved!

Product Registration or License Activation?  They are two very different things.

Registration entitles you to product support, but Premier 12 is way beyond its support date. So that's a moot point now.

License Activation is essential to use the product beyond its trial period.  Most of the legacy activation servers have aged out and stopped functioning.  So even if you manage to install PR 12 on a compatible device & operating system, there's no guarantee that the license can be activated.

See this help article below for more details.

Good luck.

Bruce, I am sorry for any confusion. Please click on the button titled "Do not register." There may also be a checkbox asking if you want to be reminded again.

If you continue to encounter problems, then verify that Premiere Elements 12 has administrative access and click on Do not register again.

The screen refers to an old registration process. For the current steps used to register Adobe software titles, please see https://adobe.ly/3CWDfsW. ^JW

Thank you for your response.
This issue seems to be one of a connection failure, possibly (based on what
I've read) a security protocol block.
Since I wrote the post on Community a while ago, I discovered how to
register the Premier 12 using another computer, and I successfully did so.
Now, when I sign into Adobe.com it shows that the software IS REGISTERED.
Still, when I try to use the program, I get the following screen and, even
though I am still signed into Adobe.com, when I click on the "VALIDATE"
screen, the screen just cycles back to the same one.

Bruce, the screen in question was a prompt to register the software. If you are unable to dismiss the screen, it is because the preference for not being asked again is not being saved.

If you have already tried dismissing the screen while giving Premiere Elements 12 administrative access, then I would recommend using new software for 2024 or click Do not register each time you open the software.^JW

try offline activation.

disconnect the installed computer from the internet

Launch the product.

At the Serial Number Validation screen, click Having Trouble Connecting To The Internet.

Click Offline Activation and click Generate a Response Code.

Write down the Request Code.

Switch to an online computer and navigate to www.adobe.com/go/getactivated.

Click Offline Activation.

Sign in with your Adobe ID.

Enter your Request code and click Generate.

Write down the Response code.

Switch back to the offline computer.

Enter the Response Code and click Activate.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
