Does an Upgraded Photoshop require a previous installation on a new computer?

In order to use an upgrade you need to have the older version serial number as a minimum.  It is somewhat useless to purchase an older upgrade if you cannot also get the even older serial number needed to qualify it.

No, but it does require having the serial number and name of the older application.  When you go to activate the upgrade you need to select the name of the qualifying older product and then enter its serial number.  If you did have the older version installed it would normally automatically detect it and you would not have to enter the information.

My problem is it was installed in another computer but the computer went

kaput and cannot recover. I don't have the serial number. I'm trying to buy

the original version of Photoshop 7 that I'm planning to install on my new

computer but what's available is un upgraded one.

    Thanks.
