Downloading help

Hello,

I am getting ready to erase everything on my laptop (MacBook Pro) since it's having way too many issues and I had a couple of questions about my Adobe programs.

My most recent Adobe purchase was Lightroom 5, which I originally had on my Mac, but was able to easily switch it over to my desktop (PC) without problems.

I have the Master Collection on my Mac, and would like to put it on my PC instead of having it on the Mac. I did a serial number finder on my laptop, just to make sure I have everything I need in order to reset my computer. When I did this, it came up with 2 codes... one for CS4 and CS5. Does this mean I had CS4 on here originally, and then a CS5 upgrade was put on here? That's my first question.

I have been reading as well that in order to do a platform swap you have to request it. Which is fine. But I also read that you have to upgrade to CS6... is this accurate? Because I don't really want to upgrade to CS6 if I don't have to. My second question (or third, I guess) is will this switch be as smooth as my Lightroom 5 was? Or is there more to it than this?

I just need some answers before I completely erase my laptop... CS5 still functions for the most part on my laptop, but if it's going to be too much money to switch platforms, I can live with my laptop being the way it is. If anyone can help me, that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Lindsey

    Hi Lindsey,

It is very possible that what you describe regarding CS4 and CS5 (upgrade) would be the case though you might need the attention of an Adobe employee to be able to determine it for sure if you don't know yourself.  It would make sense to have purchased the upgrade rather than the full priced version of CS5.

As far as changing platforms goes, that option is only provided for the most recent CS version, which is CS6.  You will not be able to get the swap for CS5.  That is why buying the upgrade to CS6 is your only option, outside of subscribing to the Creative Cloud instead.

So you might want to live with the machine as is, though you can certainly reinstall CS5 instead of living with the machine as is.  Before you wipe it clean just deactivate CS5 (open any CS5 program and choose Help -> Deactivate)  That will help insure that you have an activation available for the reinstallation.

Hello Ned and thank you for your response!

Off hand, do you know how much it is to upgrade to CS6? If so I may move forward and do that but I do not know how much it will be.

And if I just decide to reinstall it on my laptop, do I have to download CS4 first or can I just download CS5 and put the upgrade serial number in?

Thank you so much, once again for your response!

Michelinax I reviewed your account but I did not find any Adobe software titles registered.  In order to be given the correct upgrade pricing through the Adobe store, applicable to perpetual or memberships, you will want to log into http://www.adobe.com/ using the Adobe ID tied to your registered software title.

You can find details on how to locate your registered software titles at Find your serial number quickly.

If you would like to purchase an upgrade to Creative Suite 6 it is available at Creative Suite 6.

If you would like to obtain a Creative Cloud membership, which includes access to current version of Adobe Creative software titles.  Then please see Software and services for creative professionals | Adobe Creative Cloud.
