Error re-installing Photoshop Elements 9 on MacOS sierra

I had purchased and installed Photoshop Elements 9 onto my Mac last year. It was working perfect until recently. It kept giving me an error then crashing when I tried doing anything with text. It finally got so bad, I couldn't even work around it, so I uninstalled and have been trying to reinstall. I install the Mac version from the download page online, but once I try to install it in my application it tells me I need to eject the disk. When I click ok to do that nothing happens and I can not install. Please help. I am no technical guru, and need walked through getting this to work.

Old programs have not been tested and will not be updated for Mac El Capitan/Sierra

-which means that you try to use old programs at YOUR risk of having problems due to Apple updates

-Apple did not maintain backward compatibility with old programs in El Capitan or Sierra

--Adobe has a workaround to Apple's problem of not maintaining backward compatibility

--READ HERE https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2301916 for an Adobe solution to installing old programs, including a link to installing the old Java runtime that is required
