Experiences with Creative Cloud apps and new MacBook Pro M1 processor
Got my new Macbook Pro spec'd and delivered a few days ago. Migrated all data and Creative Cloud apps.
I'm a heavy Ai, PS, and Lightroom user. Here are some bullets of my experience so far. Bear in mind that afaik none of the Adobe apps are optimized for using the M1 processor. My opinions are only to inform other considering the move to a new M1 equiped Mac.
- Apps migrate easily
- The initial launching of an app is very slow, subsequent launches are quicker
- Using Ai random locking of functions (rotating colored ball) appeared numerous times - general instability of application - very frustrating
- No work or data loss encountered but a couple of reboots were done
- PS and Ai didn't feel smooth and were occaisionally jerky and staggered in feel and performance
- I'm saving work more frequently as a result of lacking confidence in the stability of the applications
I'm sure that Adobe are working on the entire suite of apps so that they work seamlessley and as rock solid as they normally do on Macs.
My 2 cents. Get the new M1 Mac only if its a secondary machine for your critical work. Of course that would only be the case until the updated applications that are M1 optimized come out.
