Has Adobe revoked my CS6 license that I bought legitimately?

At midnight on 14 February I got a pop up message asking me to buy CS6 or continue my 30 day trial, which will end tonight. I'm fully expecting my CS6 software to stop working at midnight tonight. Adobe chat line officials were of no help.

    Thread summary
A user reported a pop-up at midnight on 14 February that prompted them to either buy Creative Suite 6 or continue a 30-day trial. After the trial, the applications wouldn’t open. Upon activation attempts, they found their serial number already in use on the maximum number of devices and were only able to deactivate another device or enter a new serial number. The second activation was on a rarely used laptop that is now dead, making deactivation impossible. When trying to activate Lightroom with their valid serial number, they received an "invalid" message and were asked to start a trial. The user felt their legitimately purchased licenses had been revoked.
Troubleshooting steps / guidance mentioned by other participants

    • Nancy O'Shea (Community Expert) explained that remote deactivation isn’t possible; it must be done manually on the original machines. She also mentioned alternatives like Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements, and Creative Cloud plans.
    • Kglad (Community Expert) suggested reactivating by opening the app, selecting Help, then Activate. There should be options for sign-in/activate and sign-out/deactivate.
    • Peru Bob (Community Expert) asked if the software was purchased directly from Adobe; the user confirmed that it was.

    Suggested solutions by Adobe
    1. Reclaim an activation by deactivating a device you no longer use. Each serial-based license allows a limited number of active installations. To manage your installations, open the affected app and navigate to Help > Deactivate on a computer you still have access to. Alternatively, you can reduce the number of active devices. Once you’ve done this, try activating the application on the machine you want to keep.
    Device activation limit reached
    2. Fix the "maximum number of activations reached" serial number message. If you receive a message stating that your serial number is already in use on the maximum number of devices, follow the steps to manage and release activations associated with that serial number.
    Device activation limit reached
    3. To resolve activation or reactivation issues with older Adobe applications, such as Creative Suite 6, follow the specific troubleshooting steps for activating or reinstalling these legacy products.
Unable to activate or reinstall legacy Adobe apps
    4. If your serial number is reported as invalid, please double-check it for accuracy. If your valid serial number is still rejected—as occurred with the Lightroom sign-in prompt—make sure you are entering the correct serial number for the correct product and edition before attempting activation again.
Find serial number for your Adobe purchases
    5. To reactivate an older Adobe app after a system change, follow Adobe's guidance. Updates or hardware changes may cause your machine to be recognized as a new device, so it's essential to restore access.

Thanks, but since I am not running Windows 11 there have been no operating system updates to my computer.

it was a long-shot, and a good idea, but we’re back to not knowing a plausible cause of the (apparently) spontaneous deactivation.

14-year-old CS6 is no longer supported. That’s why Adobe Customer Care can’t help you. To qualify for support, you must have a currently supported product.

If you’ve used up the activations that came with your license at purchase, and no longer have access to the laptop on which it was installed, there’s nothing much anyone in this user-to-user community can do except guide you towards replacements. Remote deactivation is not possible. You must manually deactivate CS6 from the machine(s) it was previously installed on.

No this doesn’t help. I understand that Adobe no longer supports CS6 and I’m prepared to accept that. However, the software was still working without issue. What I’m upset about is Adobe revioking my valid licences and forcing me into ransomeware subscriptions.

No-one will explain or admit that Adobe have done this.

I get a box saying that my serial number is already in use on the maximum number of devices. Two options: “Retry activation. I have deactivated one of my other computers” (which I’ve already explained I can’t do.

    or

Enter a new serial number. If I close this box the app used to open, but now that the 30 days have passed it doesn’t.

For the separate Lightroom app I get a request to sign in. When I did this and entered my valid serial number I’m told that it is invalid and suggest I start the 30 day trial. This is what happened with CS6. Now that the 30 days are up none of the apps will open.

    you need to reactivate it.

open an app > click help > activate.

That won’t work. There is no Activate option and the deactivate option is greyed out. I tried adding my serial number again only to be told I have already installed the maximum number of apps. The second application was installed on a laptop I rarely used and died before I could deactivate and uninstall. Now every time I open an app I’m asked to add a different seriel number, but the software does then continue to work.

there should be a sign-in/activate option or a sign-out/deactivate option.
