Having a lot of trouble installing CS6 on newly installed SSD (using OWC's Data Doubler)

Running into a lot of errors while trying to install the CS6 on a MacBook Pro 15" using my now external optical drive -- CDs and other discs work OK but have had nothing but trouble with the CS6 disc (that was only used once before). Never had any problems at all before with installations or the optical drive until I put it in the external enclosure and OWC hasn't been able to solve the problem. Very frustrating -- was expecting a relatively smooth transition! On the Adobe troubleshooting page it says I need

• DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs

which I know the optical drive functioned normally as previously but I think after removing it I unknowingly changed how it performs (now need VLC Player to play DVDs). So maybe thats part of the problem with the software install?
