Help activating CS5.5 Design Standard

A coworker retired not long ago and while cleaning up the stuff he didn't take with him I found a copy of CS5.5 Design Standard. We all have a CC work group subscription so the CS5.5 hasn't been used in a long time. This being the case I asked my boss if I could have the CS5.5 for my home Mac since I don't have adobe installed on it. I got home and realized that this is an upgrade version & would need CS4 a CS4 serial to activate it. Is there any way to activate CS5.5 without buying CS4 as well? I would like to be able to have Adobe on my home Mac as well.

Thank you for any help.

you'll need the cs4 and cs5.5 serial numbers to install cs5.5 and activate3 it.  in addition, there should be a legal transfer of the cs5.5 license to you - Transfer an Adobe product license

when starting your installation you're prompted for your cs5.5 serial number.  when the installer fails to find a qualifying product (ie, previous version) installed, you will be presented with a dropdown of possible qualifying products.  select the one you own (eg, cs4).  you will then be asked to enter the qualifying products serial number.

enter the correct number at the correct time and installation will proceed.

so basically unless there is a CS4 disk and serial somewhere at work, it's useless?

if you're description is accurate (cs5.5 is a cs4 upgrade), you'll need both cs5.5 and cs4 serial numbers.  i can't say a disk and serial at work are necessarily correct, though.

you have 3 ways to recover a serial number that you once had:

1. if you purchased from or registered with adobe (automatically done with cs6):,

    a. you can check your account, https://accounts.adobe.com

    b. you can check with adobe support* (be prepared to give the email address used when registering purchasing)

2. if your adobe program is installed on another computer you can recover its serial number from that computer, (win:) http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html, (mac:)  https://mac-product-key-finder.com/

3. http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html
