Help! Installation error: "Install" is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image.

Just replaced my hard drive in my 6 year old macbook pro. Trying to install Photoshop CS5. Operating system is up to date with the latest and greatest. I did de-authorize photoshop on the old hard drive before installing the new one.

Now, I've downloaded the install package from adobe's website and tried to run the install. When I do, I get  the following error message:

"Install" is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image.

"Install" is on the disk image "photoshop_12_LS1.dmg". Safari downloaded this disk image today at 4:33 PM from trials2.adobe.com.

Options given are to "cancel" or "eject disk image".

What have I done wrong?

It's a common error when dealing with OSX's Gatekeeper which by default will not accept unsigned apps like Adobe's older CS5 software.

First go to Apple > System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Under the General tab and at the bottom, set "Allow apps downloaded from" to "Anywhere".

When you are finished and Photoshop launches, set it back to the default: "App Store and Trusted Developers".

The updates are important as well. You want Camera Raw to be updated to 6.7.1 as well as Bridge CS5.

    Here's how:

Be sure Gatekeeper is off as before.

Go here: Other downloads , look for and download/install the Adobe Application Manager. When this is done, open Photoshop and go to Help > Updates.

Photoshop will gather and install all the relevant updates, saving you the trouble of  downloading each individually.

Let me know how it goes.

you probably have a corrupt/incomplete download.  you can confirm by comparing the expected file size with the actual downloaded file size.

    1. make sure you waited long enough for that dmg to complete downloading.  adobe files are large and can take quite a while to complete downloading.

    2. if the file's corrupt and downloading is complete, redownload.
