Help please: unable to open the installation package on windows for adobe 9 standard

I had to install adobe 9 standard on my new computer after my old computer crashed. I tried to use the CD, no luck. tried to download from online-same windows installer error that the installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." Tried adobe chat which was a waste of time. Please help.

    After multiple attempts to install the program- from online and cd, the CD suddenly worked and the program was installed. No idea what prevented the installation or what allowed it to happen.
