Help with changing where apps are installed

Hello, I have been trying to change where my apps are being installed, all my apps are being installed on the c drive where i dont want them and every time i go into the prefernce settings to select the drive i want them on i keep getting a pop-up message saying "cannot install to root path" i even have in the microsoft windows settings to install everything to the drive i want but adobe just will not let me choose where i want these installed
