High Sierra: CS5 crashes at startup

hello,

my son “thoughtfully” upgraded my 2017 macbook pro to high sierra last night and now my disk-based CS 5 photoshop keeps crashing on startup. The initial adobe photoshop “welcome” screen opens for a few seconds...then disappears.

does anyone know of a remedy/work-around for this or am I just screwed into forking out to subscribing? I paid a good bit of $€£ for the CS5 disks at full retail and it‘s all I need for my freelance work. I realise this is a problem created by Apple, not Adobe, but any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I have seen it mentioned that an OLD version of Java must be installed to get an old program (CS6 and earlier) working with your new operating system https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US

If that doesn't work, tell your "thoughtful" son to find out how to roll the operating system back to one that works... and then lock your computer room door and don't give him a key

The following "might" help...  If not, your better bet might be to revert to the OS that supported your use of CS5.

Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra)

    hello ned,

let me please ask, as CS5 is already downloaded and installed on my computer, are you suggesting I uninstall and then re-install the program? my original disk was scratched, so adobe graciously allowed me to download from the cloud when I bought this computer last year. my understasnding is that it is problematic to install CS5 from the web in high sierra. would you know of a work-around without having to reinstall? Thank you.
