How do I get Adobe products to work on an iMac running OSX 10.6.8, Safari, Firefox?

How do I get Adobe products to work on an iMac running OSX 10.6.8, Safari, Firefox?

Nothing loads when I download Flash player nor when I try for Acrobat products.  Does the non-Microsoft design of Apple products prevent any Adobe products running?

I do not want a big set of mainly photo-processing facilities like CC.  I really just want to run Flash [as on Youtube] and a simple PDF handling facility.  Preferably I don't want to pay a fee [who does?] but certainly not £100GBP annually.  I am a [very] simple home user and the lack of Apple-usable products is very irritating; for some reason the BBC uses a lot of Flash features and they can't be seen on my iMac, to my intense annoyance.
