I have Perpetual license for Photoshop, but the current version of Mac won't take the Photoshop version, so I have to update it but how do I go about doing that?

you need an os that supports 32 bit apps.

Robby, in addition to the suggestions by John and Kglad please see https://adobe.ly/3YOR30j for known errors and issues using Adobe apps on macOS computers. What version of Photoshop are you attempting to install? Did you buy a brand new Mac, or is the computer older? What version of macOS is running on this new computer, Robby? ^JW

There is no update for your existing Photoshop version to run on current Mac operating systems..

If you're currently running your perpetual version on an older Mac operating system then stay with that.

If you're already on a recent macOS such as Tahoe then you'll have to join up for a Creative Cloud subscription. plan.

If you only want Photoshop then your cheapest option is a Photography Plan such as Photography (1TB) which includes Lightroom.
