how to open .eps files

HI there, I have recently purchased permissions to use images for an education project and these images have been sent to me as .eps files. and I am unable to open them.

I have adobe reader installed. the company suggested I open them with Adobe Acrobat 8.1 but I don't seem to be able to download it as a free download. can you help me?
