how to uninstall Illustrator CC 2018

Installing the 2019 versions of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign left the 2018 versions still intact, and the uninstallers worked for PS and ID but not for Illustrator. The Illustrator files were left behind. When I try to delete them, I get this error message:

The operation can't be completed because the item "Adobe Illustrator" is in use.

or occasionally the ljproj.js is in use.

I'm running MacOS 10.14.4.

What's the cause, and how do I fix it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't heard of the Cleaner Tool.

It unfortunately can't see the uninstalled (but not deleted) version of Illustrator.
