I am about to purchase a new Retina 21.5 MAC i.e. no cd slot for me to re-instal my Adobe software. Do I just download from the internet, i.e. will there be somewhere to insert serial numbers etc.

yes, download the installation files and use your serial number.  or copy your discs to a usb or ext hd and use that to install your programs.
