I've tried it with IE8 and Mozilla and get the same result. What is causing this?

    Hi,

This link has a list of troubleshooting steps to resolve issues with downloading Reader. I would recommend going through these steps : Can't Download / Install Reader

    4. Download Adobe Reader from a different link.

Try downloading the Adobe Reader installer directly by clicking this link:

    get.adobe.com/reader/direct.

I went to this link and it worked. THANK YOU!

FYI when I clicked on the :Cant Download/ Installer Reader link provided

below it sent me straight to a MS website prompting me to download IE 8. It

happened a couple of times. After I was able to get to the Adobe site and

install Reader 10 I went back to that link just to check it and it worked

properly. Those guys at MS are a sneaky bunch. Thanks again for the

    assistance.

None of the suggestions in the download assistant applied to my situation.

Before the download starts a box opens up saying 'initializing' then a few

moments later another message says ' failed to initialize'. There are no

    error codes.

Well, on what system? Is your Java properly updated?
