    Turn on Graphics Acceleration in LR / Prefs / performance. The white-X-on-blue is an indication LR is trying to use the GPU and it isn’t working. Normally LR checks the GPU at strat up and it will disable it if it sees issues. Apparently in your case the GPU was working as far as LR could tell at the beginning, but then it quite working, later. This can be due to some other application also using the GPU and the two stepping on each other.
