i have a mac mini. i bought the upgrade to lightroom 4 and i cannot open it. the error i get is '

operation could not be completed com.apple.installer.pagecontrollererror-1. i dont know what to do. i have light room 3 and that gave me no problems.

Have you tried to re-install Lr 4 from Utilities->Adobe Installers. If not, try that.

Also, try-rebooting your MAC and retry.

Login with admin rights and try installing Lr 4 again.
