this is the worst thing i have ever done in my life.

i am trying to install 5.5 on my new computer.  i have bought cs 4 in the past and bought an upgrade to 5.5. i have installed cs 4 just fine. now i would like to apply my upgrade to it. but the installer will not allow. it does not recognize that i have any programs associated with the license. but it does know that it is a valid license. what is up with that?

the installer knows that the license is for 5.5 but need a qualifying product. it also know that my cs 4 is a valid number.

I do not see a problem with what you just described.   When activating CS5.5, select CS4 as the qualifying product and enter its serial number -  that should get you thru the activation of CS5.5

It sounds like your CS4 installation is not being recognized by the CS5.5 installation.

You did not have to install CS4 if your only reason was to install CS5.5.  The CS5.5 installation should offer you the option to manually specify the qualifying product (CS4) serial number as part of the CS5.5 activation processing.

Not 100% sure, but I think 5.5 is only an upgrade to version 5
