Question

I have lightroom 5 installed before I purchased CC, question about upgrading?

I have lightroom 5.4 installed on my Mac before I purchased the creative cloud. I noticed there is an update to 5.5. Will installing the CC version simply overwrite my current install, or do I need to uninstall 5.4 first because it was not installed through creative cloud?

you could uninstall your purchase lr 5.4 (but save your installation files and serial number), and then let the cc app install (and keep up-to-date) the latest lr version.

saving your purchased lr allows you to reinstall should you ever terminate your cc subscription.  you can update your purchased lr here, http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming that if I uninstall the old version, install the new one through CC and open up my catalog that all of my changes, presets, etc. would be there, correct?

when you uninstall you will be given the option to remove your preferences. do not opt for that and then you should be ok though your catalog may need to be prepared, Migrating Your Lightroom Catalog and Photos to a New Computer | Lightroom tutorials, tips and training for Lightroomers!
